  • Native and Water-Wise Plants

We are in the midst of a revolution! Through necessity we have all started to embrace the wonderful benefits of using drought-tolerant plants in our landscapes. Less water, less maintenance, just as beautiful!! Instead of focusing entirely on California natives, we have brought together an awe-inspiring blend of water-wise plants from around the world. Plants from California, Australia, South Africa, and the Mediterranean are all found at Deep Roots Garden Center. You’ll be amazed at the difference these plants can make in your garden! Being perfectly suited to our climate, they will thrive with less water and less work and will make you happy. Why struggle with plants that just don’t like it here? Native and Water-Wise are the logical choice and we have the varieties to make any garden look great year-round! What Are Native Plants? A plant found growing and reproducing naturally in a region over a very long period of time (and prior to any human interference) is native to that particular area. Native plants are adapted to difficult growing conditions, and when well-matched to their growing environment, their use will create a more sustainable landscape that requires less maintenance. These once-forgotten beauties are beginning to find their rightful home in our gardens and landscapes. What are Water-Wise Plants? Water Wise refers to designing and implementing a landscape that conserves water. The term 'xeriscape' means the same thing. Neither term means gardening specifically with native plants, but may also include non-native plants that are adapted to dry conditions. Here in Southern California we have a wide variety of beautiful native species that can be planted side by side with plants and flowers from similar climatic regions such as the Mediterranean, South Africa and Australia.

  • Our Services

WHAT WE DO We provide a design consultation service with a diagnosis of problem areas. We will produce a design for a new garden or for part of the garden as desired. We will plant new plants, water them in, or move existing plants. We do pruning services, back yard clear out of overgrown gardens, and garden rejuvenation. We will modify sprinkler systems as needed, modify the timers and positioning of sprinkler heads etc. We will re-design the entire sprinkler system according to your garden’s requirements and cut down water use as required by our current water restrictions. The initial consultation usually takes an hour. The consultation takes place at your home. During the consultation we will assess the light or shade conditions, the topography and soil condition, the placement of adjacent structures, and the micro-climate of your space. We will examine the existing sprinkler system and watering patterns. We will consult you on your personal preferences as to design concept, plants and colors. We will try to incorporate existing plants into the new design where appropriate, by moving them or creating a new design that includes them in their current locations. Design fees: These vary according to the size and the scope of your landscape project. Implementing the Design : Fees are calculated on an hourly basis, plus costs of plant material and any other materials required (such as soil, fertilizer etc.) The size of the crew and total time will vary for each job. We do not do hardscape such as masonry or concrete work or anything that requires cement or stone cutting. We can lay bark, gravel aggregates, pebbles, stones and pavers. WHAT HAPPENS AFTER? With all living things it is the homeowner's responsibility to provide proper care. Survival of your plants depends on several things, mostly correct watering and a fertilization routine. We will be here to advise you after all planting is completed but we cannot grow your garden for you. If at any time you notice a plant deteriorating please bring us a sample of the plant that shows the problem you are seeing. By identifying problems quickly, we can usually save the plant and protect your investment. We are not responsible for plants that have not been watered properly. GUARANTEES We give no guarantee that the plants will live and grow - that part is up to the client, but we do guarantee our stock to be well rooted, well grown, selected to grow in our climate (to be suited to our climate) and properly planted. We are here to help make your garden beautiful and your gardening experience successful! For more information or to schedule a landscape consultation please contact Brandon at 310-376-0567 WHAT WE DO NOT DO We do not provide regular garden maintenance or lawn mowing services.
